Clare

Practice Manager

I started working full time at Parkside 26 years ago as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse and went on to qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2000. I became Head Nurse in 1999 and proudly lead a wonderful caring team of 16 nurses. I became Practice Manager in February 2020.
I love my role and enjoy the friendly working environment of Parkside where the client and patient care is always to a high standard. I have an interest in surgical nursing, especially orthopedics.
Growing up I always had pets from hamsters to rabbits (all kept in my bedroom) and family dogs. I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with animals and after completing many different work experiences I choose veterinary nursing. At home I am a mum to three children and we have a family Goldendoodle called Archie who at the age of 12 years still thinks he’s a puppy.

Rachel Smithers, Vet at Parkside Vets
Registered Veterinary Nurses

At Parkside Vets we are proud to say that we have many qualified and registered veterinary nurses. A few of our nurses have been in this industry for over 10 years, whereas others have passed their final exams only a year or so ago. We have nurses here who hold certificates in nutrition, emergency and critical care and nurses who have done courses in bereavement counselling, dental care, anaesthesia and exotics. All of our nurses bring something different to the team which is what makes Parkside so unique!

Student Nurses at Parkside Vets
Student Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants

At Parkside Vets we have student veterinary nurses who are at various stages in their courses. All of our nurses will have to have studied for a minimum of three years and will need to pass various practical and theory examinations before gaining their qualification. They work closely with our qualified nurses to help them gain vital skills as they work towards their diploma.

We also have a couple of veterinary care assistants who ensure that the practice is kept to a high standard of hygiene. They also ensure that the animals in our care have enrichment and assist the nurses in their everyday duties.
