Pet passports
We have several licenced veterinarians at the practice who are able to advise and authorize a pet passport or export certificate if you are thinking of travelling abroad with your pet.
From the 1st January 2021 United Kingdom pet passports are no longer valid for travel to and from the UK into Europe.
If you wish to travel to Europe with your pet, then you will need to have an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by an Official Veterinarian. We have several Official Veterinarians within the practice who can assist you with pet travel.
You can have an AHC issued if your dog, cat, or ferret:
- Has been microchipped
- Has been vaccinated against Rabies at least 21 days before travel, or has a valid rabies booster
Animal Health Certificates must be issued no more than 10 days before the date of travel and are valid for up to four months of onward travel within the European Union. You must get a new AHC for each time you wish to travel with your pet from the UK.
Dogs must also usually have a tapeworm treatment before return to the UK.
Your pet may be put into quarantine for up to 4 months if you do not follow these rules – or refused entry if you travelled by sea.
If it is your first time travelling with your pet, we recommend booking an appointment to see a vet at least 2 months before travel to ensure enough time to prepare.
Cat firendly practice
At Parkside Veterinary Centre we are a member of the ISFM (International Society for Feline Medicine) and strive to give our feline patients the least stressful experience when visiting the clinic.
We have a separate dog and cat ward with dimmable lights and soothing music played. No cat kennels face each other and special ‘hideaway’ dens are given to each cat in hospital. Feliway plug-ins are used throughout the practice to help calm the cats and make their stay as stress free as possible.
Exotics
Here at Parkside Veterinary Centre, we treat a wide range of species, including almost all the animals you may keep as a pet.
Most often, we are treating dogs, cats and rabbits, but we are also happy to help your ‘small furries’ such as guinea pigs, mice, rats, and others.
Some of the more unusual pets such as birds, reptiles and fish can be seen by our vet Ellie (read more about Ellie on our “Meet the Team” page!). We love seeing these less common pets and will make sure you see a vet with the appropriate expertise.
We also offer rabbit appointments with our nursing staff. These include a general health check and a chat about husbandry. If there are any problems identified the nurse will book you an appointment to have an examination with one of the vet team.
